Do Old Habits REALLY Die Hard?

Do you ever feel curious about why some people are a world-class procrastinator meanwhile some other people start doing an assignment a second after the lecturer give out the task? Why some people perform a certain habit while the others are not, or why people perform a certain habit in the first place? Firstly, when a person is dealing with a new situation the brain is working hard to process the scene and find out how to overcome the situation itself. Once the brain finds the answer, the action that has been perform earlier to deal with the situation become an automatic answer, which later becoming a routine.

Habit consist of a three-step loop; first, there is a cue, a cause that makes the brain to perform an automatic mode, this is where habit will take place to perform. Then there is the routine (mentally, physically, or emotionally), and the third is the reward, and it makes the brain to memorise the loop. That's pretty much on how a habit is forming. But how to get rid of it? How to create an opposite habit of the existing one? Is it as easy as to create a new one? Unfortunately, not. It takes a huge willpower to form an opposite habit of an old habit. It to only takes one catalyst to make an old habit a person's wish to get rid off to come back because the brain is constructed to retaining the path to perform the old habit in the future. But if we take a second look on how habit is established, is the existing of a reward after the habit is occurred.

Therefore, the key to get rid of an old, or perhaps bad habit is

How to gain the same kind of reward, but by perform a different habit

By acknowledging the fact that it is actually pretty simple that the basic theory on how to trade an old habit with a new one is, Balakosa wants to apply the same kind of thinking to change Indonesia's big old habit with our program and innovation;

The obsession towards imported product.

Basically anything labeled as imported.

Unmistakably.

From apparel, electronic, basic equipment, furniture, to even food Indonesian perceive imported product to hold a higher level of prestige rather than the local product. Indonesia's agricultural and horticultural product are also cannot escape on this one, and sadly the perception of it is already engraved in many Indonesian households. But why this habit still remain? objectively speaking, for those people who prefer imported product more than local product here are why this kind of automatic mode occurs and here is some reward that they will be received, based on Balakosa interpretation:

Quality, quality, quality

The majority of Indonesia people perceive imported fruits and veggies to have higher quality rather than the local ones. Many people perceive that the imported one are more visually appealing, from brighter colour to larger size. Restaurant even the local ones, are also more proud to stated that the ingredients that they use are the imported one. Which in the matter of fact, the difference aren't quite significant. The factor that determines the quality of the product is because selecting breeding, which able to be constructed and modify scientifically. But habit still a habit; if you notice, one variety of papaya is more famous than the others which is Californian Papaya. Californian Papaya itself is actually not a product from the US, its 100% local. Papaya Californian was originally named as Calina Papaya, a variety of papaya that founded by Prof Dr Ir Sriani Sujiprihati MS. The product was renamed by sellers, in order to increase the sells. It proves that if a product is attached to a foreign name or labelled as imported product, people are trusting the quality of the product more than the local one.

Convenience

Broadly speaking, lots of imported product are provided through well-known modern mini market and supermarket which usually located inside a mall, or any strategic place. Which the store is open usually from 9 AM to 10 PM (or even much longer than that) Therefore, it is easier to obtain the product and the shopping experience is more pleasant. Which also linked to the perception once again to the quality itself; where the product is placed = reflect the quality of the product. But in the matter of fact, sometimes the local product even the one that being sold in traditional market are more fresher, because the seller obtain in straight from the

Prestige

Because this kind is already engraved deeply in the mind of Indonesia society, the perception where a person shop their needs will or what kind of product purchased by the buyer, able to shows the social economic status of the product's buyer. To spend much more money was no longer an issue, because the better one usually will cost more right? it is not wrong to thing this way, but the fact is many of people are not really knowing what kind of product that they purchased. One of the real life phenomenon that proved this statement is the Californian Papaya case.

That is why, the only way to change this kind of habit is to offer the same kind of reward which translated to many programs of Balakosa ;
